Psalm 147:11 The Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.
Do you ever have those days when you are driving home after a shift at work, or park on your couch after a long day or lay in your bed at night thinking about the “face plants” you made throughout your day? You say to yourself, “Why was it SO easy for me to think what I thought or say what I said? Too easy for me to engage in the conversations that I did. Especially when I have been given many opportunities to pass this same type of test. My foolish pride!” You chide yourself immensely.
I think we all have had to get up from a fall with busted knees and grass in our teeth. Fortunately, we don’t have to measure our worth to His worth for Him to accept us. The Lord speaks His heart in Psalms 147:11; telling us that His love and grace are beyond measure. Do you know that if your list of shortcomings, weaknesses, struggles, and fears were to take up all of the pages that every tree on Earth was cut down to produce (now that’s a lot of pages!), God’s grace would outmeasure the list? God is not at enmity with those who have believed and received the gospel. Because Jesus took the punishment for your sins, you don’t have to feel like a delinquent, in line at the school principal’s office waiting for your turn to get paddled. No, you are in a different line. A line to receive God’s mercy with open arms!
Father, thank you for delighting in those who fear you. Thank you that discouragement doesn’t have to linger in my walk with you. Forgive me yet again for taking matters into my own hands. Help me to have joy, knowing that I can fully trust in your unfailing love to restore me when I fall, and help me to desire your ways above my own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
